Laser systems can be very accurate but are vulnerable to dust, fog, heat, and precipitation. Even a subtle amount of vibration or wind at the base station of a laser system can result in substantial error. They also have limited range and functionality.

GPS systems, on the other hand, are resistant to environmental conditions like fog & dust. GPS systems have a greater base station range of up to 5 times the working range of a laser survey base. This enables operators to work continuously without the need to constantly stop, move, and reset bases.
